Freedom on Wheels: Safely Delivering Your Tiny Home

One of the best things about a tiny house is it can be moved! This gives you so much freedom… freedom to change your view, your neighbours, the state you live in… freedom to completely change your way of life!

The delivery of your tiny home from the builder to it’s parking spot will be one of the most exciting days of your tiny house journey. But it can also be one of the most stressful…

If you build with us at Uber Tiny Homes, it won’t be…

Not many of us are used to seeing a house on wheels (that we’ve just spent a lot of money on) towed down a freeway or up a driveway! But rest assured, the delivery contractors moving your home do this every day. And so do we.

What you might find super stressful is just another day at the office for us. We have built every inch of our homes to happily cope with being moved - from the toughened glass in the windows and doors to our special plastering and tiling methods to the way we fix your roof to the trailer to effectively make it ‘hurricane’ proof (i.e. driving down a freeway!).

There are two main options when it comes to delivering your tiny home:

OPTION 1: SUPER LOW LOADER

The safest method of delivery is using a fully insured super low loader. In this case your tiny will be put onto a semi trailer tray and driven to it’s destination so it doesn’t even have to be towed. It can then be expertly positioned into place with a tractor. Costs are generally around $6.20 per km with deliveries leaving from Lismore, Northern NSW. This is a great option for very large tiny houses, especially if travelling long distances. At Uber Tiny Homes we build our trailers in a specific way so they can travel on a low loader.

OPTION 2: TOWING

The second option is towing your tiny home behind either a tow truck, semi-trailer cab or other large vehicle. Your tiny house can be towed anywhere for approximately $3.50 per km. This option is also fully insured. We recommend this method when the tiny house doesn’t have to travel a large distance and the delivery route involves sealed roads in good condition.

INSURANCE & CERTIFICATES

Most delivery contractors have their own insurance as well as ‘extra wide’ and ‘extra height’ certificates and signage, if required. So, if you’ve gone for a slightly over-size tiny home, there is nothing additional you need to do.

In terms of tree heights and powerlines, Councils are legally responsible to ensure all trees and power lines are greater than 4.3m high so you shouldn’t need to worry about this.

If your house has to travel through back streets or lanes or along a driveway, it is worth checking your route to remove any any low-lying or protruding branches ahead of time.

At Uber Tiny Homes we have worked with a handful of delivery contractors since 2014 so can recommend our most trusted companies to best suit your needs. If you’re moving locally, we like to be there personally on moving day to help reassure you and make sure everything runs smoothly. We can also arrange delivery to anywhere in Australia!

It’s time to enjoy your freedom on wheels….
